about my Style
My style might be a little different from what you're used to...
My editing meticulously mimics classic analog films that your grandparents were familiar with. The look was in style then, it's in style now, and it will be in style 40 years down the road.
I love telling honest stories through a timeless lens. This creates a candid, natural look. After a healthy handful of portraits, how many more photos of me and my bride posing in this way or that can we really hang on our walls? How often will we flip through pages and pages of stiff smiles and family groupings?
If you're investing in quality photography, you want to be delivered a product that generates emotion and captures the beauty of relationships.
Enough of the stuffy contortion artist poses; let's have some fun! Photographing a wedding? I seek to capture the expression that only grandma's face can make when she's laughing so hard she just about wets herself. It's these kinds of photographs that will help your future children know your grandma the way you knew her.
Taking some engagements? Let's document an activity you and your sweetheart love doing together. I mean, how much would you have given to be a fly on the wall for one of your parents' pre-marriage dates back when dad still had hair? These are the kind of photos you'll want to hold onto.
This style is sometimes called documentary, lifestyle, or photojournalistic photography, but basically it boils down to this: aside from that healthy handful of portraits, the experience should be photographed—the photographing shouldn't be the experience. This is your day. This is your story. Let's enjoy it now and for years to come.
I'm Gary, a native Utahn with a serious case of wanderlust and a creative itch that never seems to get satisfied. Ever since junior high I haven't been able to put down my camera. My love for photography blossomed as editor of my high school yearbook and then exploded while I was living in the Middle East studying Arabic. Recently, I upgraded to the newly released and highly acclaimed Fujifilm X-T2 camera and I'll never go back! I met my lovely wife while we were both serving LDS missions in Finland. We've gone back since to live there for a summer and are obsessed with Scandinavia.
